The smallest of the three inhabited Phlegrean Islands in the Bay of Naples, Procida is popular among Neapolitans but flies under the radar when it comes to international tourism.
I AGREE -- I've loved staying in Procida at Hotel La Tonnara -- wonderful beach nearby -- we walked a lot, though there were little buses to easily shuttle around in -- LOVED a pasta at La Conchiglia--near Spiaggia della Chiaia -- so much great fish there-- gorgeous sunsets -- totally charming -- you're inspiring me to return!
We didn't make it over to Spiaggia della Chiaia on this trip. I'll have to check it out next time! And I'll make a note to go to La Conchiglia. Thanks for the tips!
I haven’t been to Procida but I had it as one of the places I wanted to go when we were in Amalfi. I just ran out of time. Reading this makes me wish I had gone. Sounds perfect.
I’m not quite sure yet. Still trying to put the itinerary together. I think we’ll potentially make our homebase in Giardini Naxos and try to visit areas within a 2-hr travel time. I’m open to suggestions though! We like a more authentic, laid back beach vibe with local markets vs busy, touristy, crowded. I know crowds can’t be helped but off the beaten path and hidden gems are more our style.
I would suggest staying in Ortigia instead of Giardini Naxos unless you want to spend a lot of time exploring Mount Etna. Ortigia is really charming and there are nice local beaches nearby. Plus you have easy access to towns like Noto, Marzamemi, and Ragusa.
Loved this island. One of the highlights of out stay in Naples last year. Apropos:

What a vivid description of Naples! And I totally agree about Procida's "unhurried, ramshackle charm." That's exactly what I loved about it.
Long may it remain so, Laura
Let's hope so!

It sounds like a wonderful place!
It definitely is!
It’s on my list!!!!
I think you would love it!
And it seems very accessible!
It is! The hydrofoil that goes from Naples to Ischia makes a stop in Procida.

You’ll have to go next time!
We’re heading back to Italy this fall but going to Tropea & Sicily this time around.
Fun! Where in Sicily?

Excellent. Thanks for the suggestion! Do you have any Tropea or Sicily area posts to point me to?
