Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating! Though Thanksgiving isn’t celebrated in Italy, Black Friday sales have been widely adopted here. According to Wanted in Rome, “Four out of five Italians say they are interested in making a purchase in this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.” In fact, Italian retailers have been advertising Black Friday sales all month long, leading some (i.e. me) to wonder if they realize that technically Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving.
In any case, I figure that as an American living in Italy, Black Friday is a thing I can get behind. So from now until next Friday, December 1, all paid subscriptions to the New Roman Times are 30% off. No special link or code necessary.
That means that all yearly subscriptions—including gift subscriptions—cost $49 instead of $70. Or you can lock in a monthly subscription price of $4.90 instead of $7. So if you’ve been thinking about upgrading, now is the time to do so. And just in time for the holidays, you can gift a subscription to that special Italophile in your life.
Why upgrade?
By upgrading to a paid subscription, you’ll unlock current and future paywalled issues that contain the insider intel I’ve worked so hard to gather over years of living in and visiting Italy. Highlights include my popular curated lists such as these:
24 Places in Italy to Inspire Your 2024 Travels (coming soon!)
You’ll also get access to my 72 Hours series spotlighting in demand destinations such as:
Rome (coming soon!)
Venice (coming soon!)
Paid subscribers also get perks like exclusive discounts with my partners, including 10% off Scooteroma’s Vespa tours. Top tier subscribers who opt for a "Super Supporter” subscription get a free 40-minute consultation with me to help them plan a trip to Italy.
Perhaps most importantly, paid subscriptions help me keep this newsletter going and keep the majority of the issues available to everyone for free. The New Roman Times does not have any ads or sponsored content. I only write about places that I genuinely love and people who are worth getting to know.
As a reminder, you can also earn perks by encouraging family and friends to subscribe—and if they upgrade to a paid subscription by December 1, they’ll get 30% off too. Refer three people and you’ll get free access to all the paywalled issues for one month. Refer ten people and you’ll get three months of access comp’d. Refer 25 people and you’ll get six months comp’d. You can check your progress and get a unique link to share by visiting the Leaderboard at newromantimes.substack.com/leaderboard.
When you reach a new tier, you’ll receive an email telling you about your reward. If you’re already a paying subscriber, then the complimentary subscription will be automatically applied at the end of your current billing period. So you can take advantage of the Black Friday sale and still earn comp’d months when your friends and family subscribe too. It’s a win-win situation!
